ITHACA, N.Y.—Ithaca police are looking for a suspect in a stabbing that took place late Monday night in the 500 block of East State Street.

According to a police release sent out by Sergeant Michael Meskill, a female complainant was “forced into their apartment” by an unknown man around 11:40 p.m. Monday night. Police said during a subsequent altercation as the woman fought back, she was stabbed in the torso.

Meskill said when they arrived they found a wound to the woman’s torso. She was then transported to a regional trauma center and is in stable condition, according to police.

After interviews with witnesses and the victim, police said they do not know the identity of the attacker. He was described as a white man, six feet tall with a medium build, wearing a black hoodie and a blue surgical mask.

IPD was assisted on scene by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, the Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance. IPD is additionally asking for any help from community members in the area to check their surveillance footage and contact police if they have any information.
