ITHACA, N.Y.—Police are investigating the discovery of an unresponsive man in an apartment building in the 300 block of South Corn Street Friday morning.
Sergeant Jacob Allard wrote in a press release that police, Bangs Ambulance workers and Ithaca Fire Department personnel all attempted life-saving measures but they were unsuccessful.
The county medical examiner’s office is investigating the cause of death. Police said there had not been a determination made if a suicide or homicide had occurred, but that the investigation is ongoing. The identity of the deceased person was not released.
Allard would not answer direct questions about further circumstances of the death or if there was anything found at the scene which would indicate potential causes. Allard said the information was released because there had been public questions about the situation. He added that further information would not be available until the matter is investigated.
“As a matter of professional police procedure, we treat every unattended death as suspicious until proven otherwise,” Allard said. “I know that there were inquiries from the public specifically regarding this call and I was asked to put out a media release with what we can release at this time.”
