This is a Community Announcement from The Ithaca Voice and local independent radio station WRFI about the upcoming “Conversations with Candidates” collaboration series. The series is sponsored by Cayuga Health.
WRFI and The Ithaca Voice are collaborating on a special series of interviews with candidates for Ithaca’s Common Council. Tune in at 6 p.m. each day from June 12 through 15 to hear WRFI’s Celia Clarke and Matt Butler of The Ithaca Voice talk to the candidates in each of the four contested seats, plus the mayoral race in the coming weeks. The series is supported in part by Cayuga Health.
The forums can be heard on WRFI (88.1 FM in Ithaca, 91.9 FM in Watkins Glen and 89.7 FM across the southern Finger Lakes), with accompanying transcripts published in The Ithaca Voice at the time of the broadcast as well as recaps of Thursday’s candidate forum held at GIAC. They will all be available ahead of the first step in the historic 2023 election cycle that sees every elected official in Ithaca up for reelection, a requirement each decade after the Census results dictate district changes in the city. The primaries are held on June 27, with early voting starting on June 17.
The following shows the candidates who participated and the date the broadcast can be heard.
June 12 – Ward 1 (four year seat) – Incumbent Cynthia Brock, Kayla Matos
June 13 – Ward 2 (two year seat) – West Fox, appointed incumbent Kris Haines-Sharp, Aryeal Jackson
June 14 – Ward 3 – David Shapiro, Nathan Sitaraman, Pierre Saint-Perez (two year)
June 15 – Ward 5 – Margaret Fabrizio (four year), Jason Houghton (two year), Clyde Lederman (two year), Michelle Song (four year)
There is not a contested primary for the Democratic nomination in the Fourth Ward.
