ITHACA, N.Y.—One person is in custody after police responded to a burglary in progress that took place late Friday night.
According to a press release, police were called to the 200 block of Washington Street in Ithaca for a burglary that was in progress.
“Upon officer’s arrival, the resident of said address had chased a female [sic] unknown to him out of the residence and was detaining her around the corner,” Sgt. Jacob Allard said. “Officers took custody of the defendant without incident.”
Allard wrote that the victim arrived home to find the suspect “inside the residence actively stealing items and trashing the house.”
The alleged burglar was identified as Kaitlin Smith, a 40-year-old Ithaca resident. She was charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony. She was arraigned and remanded to Tompkins County Jail.
