NEWFIELD, N.Y.—Two people were killed during a car collision Friday evening after one stopped to help the other on the side of the road.
State police are investigating the incident, which took place in the 2500 block of State Route 13 in Newfield around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20.
According to the police’s release about the incident, 42-year-old Patrick Robinson of Ithaca was driving his motorcycle on Route 13 when he lost control of it due to the wet roadway. Mathew Poplawski, 34 years old of Schenectady, stopped to help Robinson, according to police.
Robinson and Poplawski were then struck by another vehicle, driven by a 57-year-old man from Illinois. Both were declared dead on the scene.
The Illinois man was not identified. He is cooperating with police, who said that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash but that the investigation is ongoing.
