LANSING, N.Y.—The Lansing Fire Department announced Tuesday that an early morning fire at an apartment complex had damaged a unit and left two pets dead.
Reports of a fire started coming into the department and other emergency personnel shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the department’s announcement, firefighters discovered “moderate smoke and charring around the entrance to [a] basement apartment” upon arriving at the complex. After entering the apartment, workers found a small kitchen fire that had not spread to the rest of the apartment.
Despite the efforts of Cayuga Heights Fire Department, Bangs Ambulance, the New York State Police and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office alongside Lansing firefighters, two pets died during the fire.
Crews were on-scene for about two hours before departing.
