ITHACA, N.Y.—An Ithaca man has been indicted after police allege he killed his brother in December 2022, according to Tompkins County District Attorney Matt Van Houten.
Bruce Mead, 30 years old, was taken into custody on Dec. 19, 2022, after his brother, Zacharias Moore, was found dead in the Cayuga Garden Apartments the same day. Mead’s been incarcerated since then on an earlier weapons possession conviction stemming from a standoff in 2021.
A grand jury indicted Mead this month on a second-degree murder charge and a second-degree manslaughter. The most serious charge, second-degree murder, carries a potential sentence of up to 25 years-to-life in prison.
Police have not provided details of the incident, though in the initial press release it was stated that Moore had been stabbed and was found “in grave condition” by paramedics and law enforcement upon their response. Mead was taken into custody shortly afterward.
A trial start date was not announced but should be anticipated in early- to mid-2024.
