ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell University’s women’s ice hockey team is finding success this March. The team will advance to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) conference championship semifinals after a win against Quinnipiac University last weekend.

The team, now ranked fifth in the nation, holds a record of 24-6-1. After a 3-2 win on Friday to start the quarterfinals matchup, Cornell then capped off the weekend with a 5-0 win in which the Big Red peppered Quinnipiac with 37 shots, two of which found the back of the net, both courtesy of sophomore Georgia Schiff.

With the wins, the team moves on to the ECAC championship weekend for the first time since the 2019-2020 season, according to the Cornell Athletics Department.

The women will play their semifinal game against fourth-ranked Colgate University on Friday, March 8 at 2 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y., which will be streamed on ESPN+.

While the women’s team made quick work of the quarterfinals, the men’s team is still preparing for their conference tournament to begin. When it does, the men will hold the #2 seed in the conference after a victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday night.

The 3-1 win, which took place in front of a Senior Night crowd at Lynah Rink, brought the men’s team to 17-6-6 on the year, good for a #13 ranking nationally. Freshman Jake Kraft and juniors Jack O’Leary and Sullivan Mack scored for the Big Red, according to the athletics department.

The high seed will give the Big Red men a bye for the first round of the playoffs this weekend before moving on to a three-game quarterfinal series at Lynah Rink from March 15-17. Their opponent will be determined this weekend in the first-round matchup between St. Lawrence and Yale Universities.
