ITHACA, N.Y. — This year’s Ithaca Pride celebrations will be held downtown the weekend of June 8, according to a statement from Ithaca Pride Alliance (IPA), the nonprofit that plans and organizes the annual celebration.

To kick off the weekend on Saturday, IPA will host an opening ceremony at the Bernie Milton Pavilion on the Ithaca Commons starting at 6 p.m., followed by an “all-ages dance party” from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the same location.

Sunday festivities will take place in DeWitt Park, beginning at 10 a.m. Throughout the day, local musicians and dancers will perform on the Park Stage.

Vendors, including food stands, local businesses, nonprofits, and shop owners, will set up tables and tents in the park for visitors to peruse.

Pride festivities this year are being organized by an all queer group, which has not been the case in years past, Chair of IPA Andrew Scheldorf said in the statement.

“Prior years were a great start, but it feels great to be directly working with individuals and groups to produce a festival that folks want and deserve,” Scheldorf said.

IPA is looking for volunteers to sign-up to fill specific shifts throughout the weekend. The organization requests those interested fill out a short form to receive further information.

Last year, the Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA) postponed and rescheduled pride celebrations, and all other outdoors events scheduled the same weekend, due to air quality concerns caused by widespread wildfires in Canada.
