‘Let’s Walk’ Health and Wellness Collaboration

May 1 @ 5:30 pm

Community Foundation of Tompkins County, Cayuga Health, and YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County are thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking health and wellness collaboration aimed at fostering community wellness and removing barriers associated with healthcare access. Titled “Let’s Walk,” this innovative initiative brings together healthcare professionals and community members in a unique program designed to prioritize holistic health and build stronger, healthier communities.

“‘Let’s Walk’ is more than just a wellness program—it’s a transformative approach to healthcare that emphasizes community engagement, accessibility, and inclusivity. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in guided walks led by healthcare professionals, providing unfiltered access to expert advice, support, and resources to improve their overall health and well-being” says Gloria Coicou, Chief Equity, Community Engagement, & Grants Officer with the Community Foundation.

“At Cayuga Health, we recognize that health is more than just the absence of illness—it’s about nurturing the mind, body, and spirit,” said Adrian Western, Director of Wellness, Cayuga Health. “Through ‘Let’s Walk,’ we’re excited to collaborate with the Community Foundation of Tompkins County and the YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County to break down barriers to healthcare and empower individuals to take control of their health in a supportive and welcoming environment.”

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to addressing the social determinants of health and promoting community wellness. By providing participants with direct access to healthcare professionals in a casual and engaging setting, “Let’s Walk” aims to demystify healthcare, foster meaningful connections, and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health.

“We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their background or circumstances,” said Christine Thornton, YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County. “Through ‘Let’s Walk,’ we’re proud to partner to create a space where community members can come together, support one another, and prioritize their health and wellness.”

Participants in “Let’s Walk” will not only benefit from expert guidance on physical health but also have the opportunity to engage in discussions on cardiology, neurology, nutrition, preventive care, and more. By addressing the holistic needs of individuals, the program aims to promote overall well-being and create a culture of health within the community. “We are excited to embark on this collaborative journey toward better health and wellness for all and invite community members to join us on the path to a healthier future” adds Gloria Coicou.

“Let’s Walk” is open to community members of all ages and fitness levels. Walks are scheduled each Wednesday at 5:30PM beginning on Wednesday, May 1. Participation is free of charge. Participants must commit to attending all four walks scheduled on Wednesdays, May 1 through May 22 and will be entered into a drawing for an Apple/Android watch.
