Michael Jeffers, 32, has been charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor.

Police say in court documents that at around 10 p.m. Jeffers “placed his hands around the victim’s neck, causing the victim not to be able to breathe for approximately five seconds.”

The incident occurred in front of the victim’s child, according to court records.

The victim told police she used herself as a “shield” between Jeffers and her son.

She also told police the following about the altercation: “(Jeffers) put his hands around my neck and started to force me down the stairs. While we are on the steps half-way down he thre me down the stairs. He met me at the bottom and came towards me with his hands and dragged me through the hallway.”
