ITHACA, N.Y.—A 13th person was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the kidnapping and killing of Thomas Rath, a man who was abducted from “the Jungle” in May and later killed in Tioga County, police have alleged.

According to a state police announcement, 41-year-old David Maycumber of Newfield was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and witness intimidation. Maycumber was arraigned earlier this week in Tioga County Court, where the case is being handled.

The charges reflect a mix of what the other 12 people have also been charged with. Among that group, Maycumber is the fifth person to be charged with murder in the case, along with Angelo Baez, Jonathan Glennon, Joseph Howell and Colleen Dillon, who are all facing kidnapping and murder charges. Baez and Glennon are listed from Ithaca, while Howell and Dillon are from Newfield.

Other people arrested are Robert Hines (52 years old of Candor), Zayne Burlingame (30 of Ithaca), Brelynn Vorrasi (27 of Lodi), Mark Beatty (35 of Ithaca), Jack Benjamin Jr. (39 of Ithaca), Neraida Sobrado-Torres (43 of Ithaca) and Justin Knapp (36 of Ithaca). Each were charged with first-degree kidnapping, but not murder, during an initial wave of arrests that were announced on Aug. 28.

Kysha Radcliff (39 of Dryden) was arrested in connection to the case on Sept. 1 and charged with first-degree kidnapping, while Howell was arrested in October and charged with murder, kidnapping and three counts of witness intimidation.

Other than the arrests, Rath’s case has remained largely shrouded in mystery. He went missing in May, and shortly afterward the police announced they had shifted from a missing person case to a homicide investigation.

In August, police held a press conference announcing the arrests after discovering Rath’s body buried in a shallow grave in the Town of Candor. Other circumstances of the crime have not been disclosed by police.
