ITHACA, N.Y. –Matt Van Houten received the nomination for District Attorney from the Tompkins County

In a first round of 115 votes, Van Houten received 56 votes, Andrew Bonavia received 43 votes and Edward Kopko received 16 votes.

Because neither received a 50 percent majority, another vote was cast with Van Houten receiving 64 votes and Bonavia receiving 47.

Fewer people voted in the second vote because several people left before the conclusion of the ballot counting.

Neither the Tompkins County Republicans or Independence party have publicly announced a candidate for DA, meaning that Van Houten is currently running unopposed for the job.

According to the Empire Center’s latest data, the District Attorney in Tompkins County is the seventh highest paid public office, raking in $162,208 per year.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more details.
