ITHACA, N.Y. — The 100 block of South Albany Street is closed for water main repair and the Stewart Avenue Bridge over Cascadilla Creek is closed for work beginning this week.

South Albany Street

The City of Ithaca is replacing an 1891 vintage cast iron water main on the 100 block of South Albany Street between the intersections of West Green and West State streets.

Work began Monday and is expected to continue through Aug. 7.

During the project, West Green Street will be narrowed to one lane (right lane) at the intersection of South Albany Street. Work at the intersection of West Green Street is expected to take no more than two days.

The 100 block of South Albany Street will be closed to through traffic between the intersections of West Green and West State streets for about two weeks.

DETOURS: The city recommends southbound travelers on South Albany Street turn right on either West Seneca or West State streets, then left onto South Plain Street, then left onto West Green Street, then right back onto South Albany Street. Northbound traffic on South Albany Street is advised to turn right on West Green Street then left onto Seneca Way/Street, then right back onto North Albany Street.

Stewart Avenue

The Stewart Avenue Bridge over Cascadilla Creek will be closed for painting beginning this week until mid-October.

The project will include field cleaning and overcoating the existing structural steel with minor concrete repairs to the arch footing, the city said.
