ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca police are searching for a suspect that robbed Byrne Dairy at gunpoint Tuesday night.

At about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the Ithaca Police Department responded to a reported robbery at Byrne Dairy, located at 215 N. Meadow St. in Ithaca. A clerk who was working at the store at the time told police that a man came in the store, pointed a handgun at him and demanded all of the money in the register and all of the Newport cigarettes in the store.

The suspect then fled the area on foot, police said.

The suspect is described as a white man, about five-feet eight-inches tall with a skinny build, light-colored eyelashes and blue eyes. The suspect was wearing a face mask and a light gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood covering his face during the robbery.

This is the second armed robbery in Ithaca in recent weeks. Tompkins Trust Company on Meadow Street in Ithaca was robbed by a suspect with a handgun Dec. 5.

Ithaca Police Officer Jamie Williamson said no arrests have been made yet in either case. He also said the police department has not developed any information that the two are linked.

Williamson said the Byrne Dairy clerk was not injured in the robbery, but said “It’s unfortunate that the clerk was victimized … especially when a handgun is displayed.”
