TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—In the race for Tompkins County Legislature District 2’s seat, Leslie Schill holds about the slimmest of leads over fellow challenger Veronica Pillar. Three votes separate the two, with 39 votes left to be counted.
The race won’t be decided until next week, when the outstanding absentee ballots are counted.
In total, there were 523 ballots cast in the election on Tuesday, which was being held to replace former Tompkins County Legislator Anna Kelles, who was elected to the New York State Assembly in November. Schill collected 262 total votes, compared to Pillar’s 259. Pillar received 219 on the Working Families Party line and 40 on the Justice and Solidarity party line.
There were two write-in votes. Schill ended the night with 50.1 percent of the vote to Pillar’s 49.5 percent.
