ITHACA, N.Y.—The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response has announced the Tompkins County Safety and Incident Real-Time Emergency Notifications (SIREN) program that is now available to all residents.
The new SIREN program will replace the Swift911 notification system the county has used previously, and is a free service allowing individuals to receive alerts on potentially hazardous situations related to weather, traffic or other emergencies, including county updates regarding COVID-19 and other public health responses.
SIREN sends alerts via phone calls, texts and emails, and answer poll questions will allow officials to provide information throughout unfolding emergencies.
Community Preparedness Coordinator Geoff Dunn said that “Our goal is to have as many people as possible signed up for this resource. Please take a moment to encourage your families, neighbors, and communities to sign up so they don’t miss important updates in the event of an incident or emergency in Tompkins County.”
Anyone previously enrolled in the Swift911 program will be automatically transferred over to SIREN, and residents who wish to register can do so at https://www.tompkinscountyny.gov/siren or by texting SIREN to 67283.
