LANSING, N.Y.—The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect in a shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in Lansing.
Undersheriff Jennifer Olin said that police responded to the Milton Meadows Apartments on Robins Way in the Town of Lansing around 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 28 after a report of a shooting. Upon police’s arrival, one victim was found.
The victim had suffered a gunshot wound to their leg, and was subsequently taken to a trauma center for treatment. Olin said they were released from the hospital after treatment.
Details are scant, but Olin wrote that the victim and suspect had been in a verbal dispute before the shooting occurred. While a person of interest was “located and temporarily detained,” it does not appear that they were taken into custody, meaning the suspect is still at large. Police are asking for help from anyone with information regarding the shooting.
Police did not state any suspect details and did not specify whether or not there is any danger to the community—though since the victim and suspect knew each other, it seems likely there is not.
