LANSING, NY–Douglas “Grampy” Dake, 62, died peacefully at home in Lansing, on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

Doug was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on Jan. 19, 1962, to Robert and Andrea Dake, and had two sisters, Kristie and Carla.

Doug’s family lived in Lansing through middle school before moving to Westlake, Ohio.

Doug was the first Ohio state wrestling champion at Westlake High School, where he also played football.

While attending Kent State University, he played rugby and wrestled. Doug was an All-American wrestler and was inducted into the Kent State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

He met the love of his life, Jodi, at Kent State, and they were married on July 4, 1987, in Ashland, Ohio. They moved to Lansing, and Doug began his coaching career at both Ithaca College and Cornell University, before he became heavily involved in the Lansing Wrestling program where he coached for more than 20 years. Doug served on the Lansing Town board for eight years and coached many youth sports, making many wonderful friends along the way.

Doug and Jodi immersed themselves in the raising of their three children, teaching them to work hard and encouraging them to pursue their interests and passions. If you asked him what was most important to him, he always said family.

He was co-owner of D Squared Construction with Doug Boles, serving Lansing and surrounding areas since 1995.

Doug loved to be on the lake, and some of his best memories include spending time with his family and friends boating, camping and playing with his dogs. Doug was always happy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife Jodi; sister Kristie (Rick) Harrold; children Kyle (Megan) Dake, Corey (Zoe) Dake, Kristin Dake; and grandchildren EllaJo, Emilia, Leo and Lakelynn Dake.

Calling hours will be held at the Lansing Funeral Home on April 27, 2024, from 10am to noon, with a service following at 4pm at the Lansing United Methodist Church.
