Earlier this spring IPD Officer Jamie Buffone was selected as the newest member of the Ithaca Police Department K-9 Team.

Shortly after that the Ithaca Police Department acquired a K-9 dog named Rex.

Chief of Police John R. Barber is pleased to announce that Officer Buffone and Rex have passed the rigorous nine week training and certification program.

On Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 3:00 pm, Rex will be sworn-in as the newest member of the Ithaca Police Department.

The ceremony will take place in the Common Council Chambers in City Hall, 108 East Green Street. Chief Barber and Officer Buffone invite you to join in the celebration of this wonderful addition to the Ithaca Police Department family.

Regarding the addition of Officer Buffone and Rex to the Ithaca Police Department K-9 Team Chief Barber recently stated, “I am very excited to add Officer Buffone and Rex to our K-9 program. I am thankful for the hard work that Officer Buffoen and Rex have put in to excel in the training. During the training Officer Buffone even won the Sergeant Rod Dalton Award for Outstanding Performance By A K-9 team. Officer Kimmich has done a great job with Bert and I am confident Officer Buffone and Rex will do just as well”.
