GROTON, N.Y. –– A Groton man pleaded guilty to Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child in Tompkins County Court Thursday.

Christopher A. Barrows, 61, was arrested in April following an investigation by New York State Police Troop C Computer Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations at Ithaca that found Barrows had been uploading inappropriate images of children were at the residence where Barrows was living dating back to August of 2018.

Barrows pleaded guilty to two counts of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, a class E felony. The charge carries a maximum period of incarceration of 4 years.

However, at Barrows’ plea hearing last Thursday, the court agreed not to seek state incarceration but rather a term of electronic monitoring, probation and mandatory registration as a sex offender. It’s unclear how long the defendant would be required to be electronically monitored.

Probation for the defendant will likely include between 100 and 200 hours of community service requirements.

Barrows sentencing is scheduled for March 27 at the Tompkins County courthouse.
