ITHACA, N.Y.—GreenStar announced on Sept. 30 that an employee who works at the new Cascadilla Street location has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed in isolation. Tompkins County spokesperson Dom Reckkio confirmed the positive test.

An announcement on the GreenStar website states that the food co-op is committed to providing a safe experience for shoppers, and it does not appear that the worker had prolonged exposure to the public, since the Tompkins County Health Department has not issued a public announcement asking people who shopped at GreenStar at certain times to get a test.

“Those identified as having close contact (as defined by the Health Department) with the employee have already been contacted and protocols for essential workers are being followed,” said General Manager Brandon Kane.

This is at least the third GreenStar employee to test positive since the beginning of the pandemic, including one in May and one non-public facing employee in July.

“We are committed to providing a quality place to work, shop, and dine for our staff, customers, and members,” Kane said. I thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at GreenStar.”
