ITHACA, N.Y.—The police pursuit through Cayuga Heights on Tuesday led to charges for two people who were arrested in connection with a shots fired incident on Hancock Street and subsequent police chase that involved lockdowns and shelter-in-places at several schools around Ithaca and Cayuga Heights.
Ramello Q. Jackson, 22, of Ithaca, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and two misdemeanors of second-degree obstructing governmental administration and seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance. Trimard C. Campbell, 22, of Utica, was charged with the same crimes as Jackson, except instead of the obstruction charge Campbell was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
A third person was pursued into the evening, but managed to escape arrest. Police have not released their name. There have still not been any victims announced in connection with the shooting.
Sheriff Derek Osborne thanked several area agencies for their help in the chase. The Ithaca Voice is awaiting clarification on whether more charges are pending, which could help explain the magnitude of the search and lockdown procedure that went into place during the evening Tuesday, which briefly included a shelter-in-place for a five-mile radius around an address on Renwick Heights Road.
