LANSING, N.Y. — Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an “irate” man wielding a metal baseball bat at the Key Bank location in the Village of Lansing on Tuesday.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office released a narrative of events on Thursday, saying that deputies arrived at the Key Bank Location on N. Triphammer Rd at approximately 3:06pm top find a door broken inside the bank. The sheriff’s office state the man had threatened to harm bank employees. Bystanders told the deputies that the man ran off on foot with the baseball bat in hand.
The deputies found the man running on foot on Graham Rd in the Village of Lansing , and detained him, identifying him as Dusty Townsend. He is described as kicking and spitting on deputies while being brought into custody, and causing damage to a patrol car.
Townsend was evidently violent and angry, but otherwise his mental state is unclear from the release.
Townsend was charged with two counts of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, Meaning in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and three counts of Harassment in the 2nd Degree.
By the orders of the Judge, Townsend was released to probation after being arraigned.
