ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell University’s men’s and women’s ice hockey teams both clinched Ivy League titles over the weekend, as each team clinched the league’s top spot with wins over Yale University.

The women’s team, which finished its season at 22-6-1 and is currently ranked sixth in the country, defeated Yale’s women’s team 2-1 on Saturday. The team secured a bye week in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoffs, and will face the winner of Quinnipiac University and Harvard University in the second round, a three-game series that will be held at Lynah Rink in Ithaca.

Mckenna Van Gelder and Karel Prefontaine both scored goals for Cornell, while Annelies Bergmann was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week for her efforts against Yale and Brown University. The win marked the team’s 16th Ivy League title.

Meanwhile, the men’s team won their second consecutive Ivy League title with a shoot-out victory over Yale on Saturday in Ithaca.

The men’s team is currently ranked 12th in the country with a record of 16-4-5. Senior Gabriel Seger and sophomore Dalton Bancroft both scored during the shootout to close out the Ivy League title, which was the men’s team’s 26th league title.

The men’s team will finish off its season with four more games, including a regular season finale of a pair of games on March 1 and 2 at home against Union College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Men’s team goaltender Ian Shane was also nominated as a semi-finalist for the Mike Richter Award, which annually recognizes the country’s most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey. Like Bergmann, Shane was additionally awarded the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week for the sixth time this season.
